What is Breathwork?

Breathwork is the practice of intentionally changing your breathing pattern for an extended period of time to unlock your body and mind's potential.

Breathwork ceremonies allow you to dive into the internal infinite space of healing. When you begin to hyperventilate, it decreases the CO2 in your body and your blood begins to alkalize. This slows down your prefrontal cortex, which is the center for your sense of self or ego.

When you trigger the body’s memory of fight or flight, it allows unprocessed, stored emotions and energy to complete its process of release and integration. This creates a positive stress response with the right intentions, space, and guides.

Even if you are unaware of an event, your body remembers it at a cellular level, continuing to carry the stress.

 If you cannot find a way to release these stored energies and emotions, you start to live with higher levels of stress and pressure in your body.  Over time, this heightened stress response creates inflammation: the basis for all dis-ease.

 

Intentional breathwork offers:

Aligned, guided, intentional breathwork sessions can lead to many benefits such as: improving internal organ function, deep detoxification, stronger emotional intelligence, increased energy, released endorphins, enhanced ability to tap into your intuition, self-love activation, and being here and now. Done correctly, breathwork can lead to profound psycho-spiritual and physical health benefits.

Misaligned breath can trigger:

Misaligned breath patterns are a norm in our Western, productivity-driven society. Breathwork done improperly can lead to chronic stress, oxidative stress, psychosis (loss of reality), dizziness/ fainting, spasms, seizures, panic attacks, weakness, insomnia, and other health problems.

Please consider using a facilitator for breathwork to show you correctly how your body has the potential to heal itself.

What a Session Looks Like:

A private session is typically around 2.5 hours long, starting off with an introduction to breathwork and where you are currently at within your mind, body, and spirit.

Once you feel ready, you will begin breathing in a circular connected breath for an hour, then followed by 15-20 minutes of integration music (similar to shavasana in yoga). You breathe to the flow of the music.

After the integration music finishes, you have the opportunity to use some integration tools such as journaling, meditating, or drawing. We then go over anything you are wanting to verbally share and process together, which is of course optional.

Education

I attended Samma Karuna’s Breathwork Facilitator Training on the island of Ikaria, Greece. It was a multi-style breathwork intensive, where we studied both Rebirthing and Holotropic breathwork. Through this vast training, each student was empowered to create their own style of facilitation, stepping into our own unique gifts and intuition. I utilize both types of breathwork in each session, though every session is unique to you. The course also included personal healing practices so that I can better facilitate and hold space for others to do their own deep healing.

Hanna created a beautifully peaceful space for me to feel safe whilst diving into the unknown. She guided me into the deep, intensive breathing after a lovely meditation, opening the door to whatever I needed to get from the session. After several minutes, my whole body was tingling and I fell into a deep meditative state and I felt like the observer within a breathing machine. I felt very at peace and centered, knowing Hanna was there with her loving cues. Afterwards I lay there feeling my energy aura radiate from my body several feet. I have a history of asthma & struggle to breathe deep & connect with my breathe on a daily basis, so I wasn’t sure it would ‘work.’ The idea of a circular breath left me a bit nervous, like I wouldn’t be able to catch my breath fully.
